Tux me up buttercup.
So I’ve jumped into the world of Linux, not for the first time I hasten to add. I have had briefly played around with Mandrake and Red Hat but always moved back to windows 2000 when something just failed to work, such as a soundcard or the lack office program pisses me off. This time however all seems rather different. Xandros 3.0 Delux edition based on debian actually works, without spending days playing around to get it to work. Ok there are minor issues, my version of Microsoft Office slightly messes up on the install, but at least its an option! Think its fixable, will play around with it later. As for hardware detection, amazing as with virtually every distribution nower days, no pesky driver installs :). the most impressive thing with this distro is the package handler, which can handle everything with a point and click interface. From there you can find and download Xandros ready programs or debian packages, which normally work without a hitch (maybe have to add the shortcut to the very windows like “Launch” bar). Other than that I’m very happy :) Within a night I sorted out Xine so that it plays DVDs, and of cause installed Thunderbird and Firefox.
