Just read on the BBC site that the ‘crazy frog’ is almost certainly going to beat Coldplay to get to the top of the charts this week. This is more than just sick, it’s a fucking outrage. Are people really that gullible into buying a ringtone mixed with some shit midi from a film in the 80s?
At least it shows the world that to make money in the music or ringtone industry all you need to do is advertise, it doesn’t matter what shit you pile out, it will sell to dumb people and children.
I really love the BBC. This week we have already seen them open up its content like never before, actively encouraging people to play around with its RSS feeds and what have you. More about this gubbins can be found here. However, the big news of today is that the BBC is extending its trial of downloadable television programs. The trail is limited to 5000 people and only open to UK residents but its nice to see that at least some television networks are actively embracing the internet.
Sad news today, it looks like Kylie Minogue has breast cancer and will be postponing upcoming concerts and cancel her appearance at Glastonbury. I hope she gets better soon. I really do love her.
A Californian radio station has had Eels with Strings come and play. Grab your god awful copy Realplayer and tune in here to catch the entire session with video, or here for just the audio. Hurrah. Thanks to BehindTheChurch.com for the link.
The problem with the internet is that it’s just too bloody big. So when it comes to free music and legal music there is too much for any one person to sift through. Now at the moment I am feeling the need to listen to something different, more than the generic Indy rock which has become pretty stale lately (with some notable exceptions). So at the moment I’m trying to listen more electronic and heavy rock music. Surprisingly of all is that I’m even attempting … shock of all shocks … to listen to some dance and R&B.
As this is a pretty mad new world for me I’ve opted to engage with music in a different and sometimes massively over hyped method, Podcasting. Putting it simply, Podcasting is a way in which a little piece of software can downloaded a new mp3 from a site when it becomes available (via the marvel of RSS). This may be a single song, or in the case of many sites, entire ‘radio’ shows lasting around ½ hour.
Although the technology has lots of potential, there is an awful lot of shit out there, much like pirate radio transmissions, you have to be selective. Many links to shows can be found here at Podcast Alley. For my needs at the moment, ie, a mix of everything and doing it legally, I’m finding Hal’s (of halvorsen.org) Acecast a thoroughly good listen.
Well Wesley Buckaroo appeared on the B3ta newsletter, that made the traffic spike like a whore. It ended up that in the last week of April the page had shifted 20+ gigs, with around 50,000 unique visitors. However, the most surprising thing was that Wesley Buckaroo appeared on TV in Canada. Shockingly a TV network called “G4tv carried a show called “Attack of the Show which featured my site along with www.stuffonmycat.com. Now I have seen it all.
Here is a naughty torrent link to the actual show.
