I would give my right eye for a new iMac

Thursday, October 13th, 2005

In exchange for an iMac I am willing to give up my right eye because this new Apple machine appears to be the coolest thing on the planet. If anybody is interested, my right eye is 22 years old and has a fetching brown iris. The condition is excellent, for example the tear duct (included) is barely used due to a quite happy childhood. All lenses seem to be in good working order and have recently passed an optical exam.

I would also consider selling the following to gain the £1,199 needed for the 20 model.

1 leg: would make a great art installation. A real talking point
1 kidney: you can never have too many!
Hair in assorted textures and flavours.

Apple V Microsoft or how I learned not to go on about it.

Saturday, October 8th, 2005

I was going to write a whole load about my respect for Apple and my beefs with Microsoft but it would be a bit shite and boring. So it will stay mostly unwritten, however here is a quick summery.

Apple have innovated in the past few years, developing the iPod, iTunes, iPhoto, Mac OSX and its hardware range. In comparison Microsoft have added some adverts to MSN messenger and released some security updates. The only reason I still use Windows is for Word.

That is all.

Opera and iTunes

Sunday, September 11th, 2005

Well I am still using Opera as my primary browser. It is just notably faster that Firefox (that is due for an update this soon). There are a few things which may take me back to Firefox though, the first is the was Opera handles RSS. To view a feed in Opera its opens up a new tab and lists them all, like how you read would read an email in outlook. I kinda got used to the drop down, ‘title’ only feature of Firefox, great for checking things regularly. Plus with opera being ranked 3rd in popularity, some websites can mess up a little bit (digg.com in particular). I also kinda miss some of my firefox plugins, like adblock and the Athens Toolbar (for higher education services) but hey, for day to day browsing Opera is faster.

What else, well iTunes has updated to version 5.0 with a nice new interface. It’s a little more stable and less buggy in the windows version at least. It’s also interesting how you can search for just video located on your hard drive. It can’t be long now before iTunes Music Store sells video, surely.

Speaking of music things, I was thinking of making a podcast but not having me saying a word on it because I sound like a 13 year old and I lack studio/equipment and anything of worth to waffle on about (the major short comings of many many many podcasts). But anyhow, I wouldn’t mind going to local pubs and recording those 1 pint a song nights or even some of the local bands that do the rounds. These people are normally shite, but for a small pub having a podcast searchable in iTunes would be something pretty cool and may even encourage custom. Just a thought anyhow, feel free to copy and use it, but if you do remember to get anybody on it to sign a Creative Commons Licence or something.

And still no BBC iMP invite *grumbles and gives up hope*.

iTunes Video Podcasts

Monday, August 8th, 2005

The geek world is a buzz with rumours that Apple iTunes will soon sell music videos. To be honest I don’t think I would pay for them, but hey, perhaps soon we will be able to download legal films via it. However a cool feature of iTunes is being able to subscribe to not only audio podcasts, but also video podcasts. There are not too many at the moment but offer a cool way to keep up to date on your latest downloadble tv programs. Pictured is the Diggnation video cast, which is a nice little weekly round up of tech news and beer review.
